Job Description:
ASA’s mission is to inspire creative thinkers and leaders through providing an innovative concentration in college preparation informed by the performing arts.
As a member of ASA’s Piano Department, this faculty member will teach class piano to middle school and high school students. This position will teach 2 middle school classes and 2 high school classes. This instructor designs, plans, and implements a challenging and relevant curriculum that focuses on the specific pedagogy needed for success in playing at this level. The curriculum takes a progressive approach to the keyboard, requiring the teacher to be proficient in traditional piano technique. The teacher must be experienced in providing feedback to help students develop their creative and performance skills.
Class sizes are limited to 14 students with middle school and high school students separated based on ability level. Arts teachers have 2.5 hours of prep time for curriculum planning, meeting, integrating, and assessing. ASA will provide the curriculum and the department will collaborate when planning for additional enhancement or with new content. curriculum to align with the national and state performing arts standards and social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies. They will also be asked to differentiate their curriculum using additional resources as needed to support student growth and achievement. This teacher works closely with the area Department.

This position reports to the Dean of Arts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Create a respectful, stimulating, purposeful, and student-centered classroom.
Cultivate critical thinking and active participation in the classroom.
Utilize current curriculum and assessments aligned to the National and State Arts Standards, ASA standards, SEL Competencies, and ASA’s scope and sequence.
Communicate clear objectives to students.
Communicate progress and achievement to students and parents.
Work cooperatively with colleagues in a team setting for curriculum design, assessment, and implementation.
Collaborate and participate with the Piano Department faculty in team meetings, developing the department newsletter, establishing department culture and norms, problem solving, and coordinating the department recitals.
Collaborate and participate with the entire arts faculty in the school’s annual end-of-year Showcase production.

Perform Duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Music Education (piano emphasis/expertise preferred) from an accredited four-year college or university; Masters of Music preferred.
Proven musicianship and pedagogical skills as a performer and teacher with an extensive knowledge of piano repertoire.
Proven experience working with student musicians of varying ages and experience; 3-4 years of classroom teaching experience preferred.
Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (IVP) card.
