Job Description:

TITLE:  ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

CONTRACT TERMS: 12 Months


SALARY CLASSIFICATION:  Administrative Salary Schedule/Exempt 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as the District’s Chief Academic Officer, provides senior leadership of the district’s instructional programs, which includes responsibility for the district’s programs in curriculum, instruction, assessment, staff development, and educational standards. Provides support to the Superintendent in the supervision of school operations and as a member of the Superintendent’s cabinet.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides senior leadership for certified and support staff professional development.
  • Supervises all curricular programs and program adoptions. 
  • Ensures that the district curriculum meets all required standards. 
  • Coordinates all instructional program reviews and oversees standard implementation of curriculum across the district. 
  • Supervises the district’s assessment programs and corresponding coordinator. 
  • Senior management of the District alternative education programs. 
  • Senior oversight of federal programs; responsible for the writing of assigned grants and programmatic management of corresponding programs, including operational and fiscal management. 
  • Senior level management of the district gifted education program. 
  • Serves as a district hearing officer for long-term suspension and expulsion hearings. 
  • Serves as Equal Educational Opportunities Compliance Officer. 
  • Responds to the Governing Board on issues associated with District Goal achievement. 
  • Provides supervision to principals and other assigned administrative personnel. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

   

QUALIFICATIONS 

A.  REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in Education Administration and/or Educational Leadership from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a school building principal preferred.
  • Arizona School Superintendent certificate preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of the principles and practices of effective curriculum and instructional research practices and corresponding models.
  • Ability to interpret laws, policies and guidelines relating to education and state standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Governing Board.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations, including those with unique educational requirements.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and apply scientific research, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to formal inquiries from regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to demonstrate high-level of oral and written communication.
  • Ability to effectively present information in a formal and public setting.
  • Ability to understand and apply graduate level mathematical and statistical concepts related to assessment and evaluation.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving analysis, process, and decision making.
  • Demonstrate high-level leadership competencies, including sound problem solving and professional judgement.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports to the Superintendent.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:  Administrative responsibility over assigned directors, principals, and personnel as directed by the Superintendent.
