Job Description:

Description: The Certified Teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the academic, personal, social, and intellectual development of each student.  He/she presents appropriate curriculum that is in alignment with federal, state and district goals and objectives using a variety of instructional methods and strategies to further enhance and support learning. The teacher also maintains high expectations for self and all students and encourages them to become life-long learners.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited four-year college or university
Valid Arizona Teacher’s Certificate
Valid Arizona Teaching Endorsement(s) in the subject area(s) to be taught
Must be in compliance (or be able to be in compliance) with Arizona State law regarding standards for grade level and/or subject area that is being taught
Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
Must be capable of developing effective instructional programs
Strong knowledge of the English language including reading, writing and oral communication with extensive skills in spelling, punctuation and grammar
Knowledge of Spanish including reading, writing and oral communication is desired
General knowledge of special education curriculum and instruction
Strong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with students, parents and staff
Must be an energetic, highly ethical and possess good emotional and physical health


Knowledge of:

Elementary/middle school/subject area curriculum and instruction child development
Instructional methods and strategies and curriculum implementation
Technology applications and its use as an instructional tool
Effective classroom management and discipline procedures
Analysis of achievement data


Ability to:

Write comprehensive lesson plans
Use a wide variety of teaching strategies to ensure learning from all students
Analyze and evaluate student progress and course curriculum
Evaluate written materials
productively manage groups of students
Comprehend and perform functions from written and verbal instructions
Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving techniques
Organize and prioritize work, take initiative and adhere to time restraints
Work effectively with a diverse community
Communicate ideas and programs to individuals, staff, parents, community, etc.
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board or the Superintendent may deem appropriate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Establish a welcoming instructional climate and culture for all students, parents, community, etc.
Provide differentiated instruction based on individual student needs
Prepare weekly lesson plans that are in alignment with district and state adopted objectives and goals
Present effective lessons to students as described in lesson plans
Develop and implement effective classroom management to maintain acceptable student behavior, ensure student safety and create a productive learning environment
Prepare or obtain all instructional materials to be used in the classroom in a timely manner
Instruct students individually or in small groups to help them master objectives and to reinforce learning
Collaborate with special education teachers, team members, administration, etc. as needed to assist in the instruction of a student(s)
Participate in Child Study process
Participate in grade level and/or subject area team planning
Inform parents and students regarding homework policy and methods of evaluation
Monitor and evaluate each student’s academic and social performance and record relevant data to assess progress
Develop and maintain an accurate and current gradebook or spreadsheet regarding assignments and test scores on each student
Inform parents of student progress as often as needed
Prepare quarterly Progress Reports for each student, if applicable
Prepare quarterly report card for each student
Conduct Fall and Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences
Assist parents with instructional strategies and materials that may used at home
Communicate with parents regarding school policies, program changes, special events, etc.
Attend parent meetings as directed
Administer State adopted achievement tests and ELL testing
Maintain an attractive and clean classroom
Develop and maintain a classroom environment that develops social, emotional and cognitive skills
Develop and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes cooperation and learning
Plan, organize and display classroom materials appropriate to curricular activities
Order classroom supplies and instructional materials
Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials
Develop a substitute file to be used in teacher’s absence
Supervise and enforce rules and procedures for all students in the school to continually maintain order and ensure safety in the halls, cafeteria, gymnasium, playground and field trips
Establish and maintain effective relationships with administration, students, parents and all school personnel
Attend staff meetings as directed
Attend and assist with school functions as directed
Serve on school or district committees as requested
Participate in district sponsored professional development workshops/inservices, attend professional meetings, read professional journals and publications, etc. for continued professional development
Maintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or information
Support and follow the rules, regulations and policies set by the School Board, the assigned school and the District
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Principal or his/her designee
