Job Description:

Metcalf’s Title I Reading Teacher is a specialized educator dedicated to helping students strengthen their reading skills. This role focuses on providing targeted reading instruction in small groups or one-on-one settings within our Title I classroom. By assessing needs, implementing research-based interventions, and closely monitoring progress, the Title I Reading Teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers and parents to help students reach grade-level literacy proficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Assessment

    • Administer diagnostic reading assessments (Acadience) to identify students' strengths and areas for growth.
    • Determine eligibility for Title I services and develop personalized learning plans.
  • Targeted Instruction

    • Provide small group and one-on-one reading interventions using evidence-based strategies.
    • Focus on key areas such as phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development.
  • Progress Monitoring

    • Track student growth through formative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly.
    • Regularly communicate progress with classroom teachers and parents.
  • Data-Driven Instruction

    • Analyze student data to guide instructional decisions and evaluate intervention effectiveness.
    • Identify trends and adjust strategies to meet students' evolving needs.
  • Collaboration with Teachers

    • Work closely with classroom teachers to align Title I instruction with the school curriculum.
    • Share student data and discuss strategies to support struggling readers effectively.
  • Family & Community Engagement

    • Maintain open communication with parents regarding their child’s reading progress.
    • Provide opportunities for parental involvement and share strategies for supporting reading at home.
  • Professional Growth & Development

    • Stay current on best practices in reading instruction and intervention.
    • Participate in professional development and share insights with colleagues.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Valid Teaching Certification – Must hold a current teaching license with a reading endorsement or literacy specialization.
  • Reading Intervention Expertise – Strong understanding of reading development stages, common reading challenges, and effective intervention strategies.
  • Data Analysis Skills – Ability to interpret assessment data and use it to guide instruction.
  • Strong Communication & Collaboration – Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues to support student success.
  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving – Ability to tailor instruction based on individual student progress and changing needs.
