Job Description:

Language Arts Teacher Requirements: 

● Valid and current Arizona teaching certification and driver’s license (or ability to obtain prior to start of school) 

● Deep understanding of high school literature and writing concepts 

● Strategies for teaching the reading process 

● Willingness to collaborate with colleagues in planning and implementing investigations in other academic areas as needed 

● Competence with students and curriculum at the 9-12 grade levels 

● Interest in providing other teachers with literacy support through integrating literacy instruction into their curriculum areas 

● Ability to take leadership in the development of ongoing reading instruction taught by all Crew Leaders (Crew Literacy Component) 

● Willingness to differentiate instruction and provide accommodations in a fully inclusive setting 

● Collaborate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of “intensives” (ten-day courses offered and the end of academic semesters) 

● Arrange and facilitate well-planned fieldwork experiences to support expeditions 

● Teaching experience at the high school level in an Expeditionary Learning or similar program 

● Experience with a range of language arts content 

● Experience pulling in outside experts in a particular field to support particular studies 

● Experience integrating literacy instruction to support content area research and writing 

● Experience using fieldwork to support the content curriculum 

● Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness First Aid, CPR, or related safety training for field settings
