JOB TITLE: Speech/Language Pathologist
REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Instructional Services and Special Education Director
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To diagnose and treat individuals with communication disorders which interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the District's educational program.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides a Speech screening program for all kindergarten, first and second grade children (to include all new students as they enter the District).
Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of Speech and Language handicapped children.
Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language disorders.
Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
Provides information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech and language improvement.
Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual students receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
Devises, compiles, maintains all forms, records and files as directed by P.L. 94-142 and Arizona state certification authorities.
Provides the Principal and student personnel services director with all lists, forms and records required to maintain compliance with District, state and federal regulations.
Hires staff to include a licensed Speech/Language Therapist, licensed Speech/Language Therapist Assistant and clerical staff.
Completes obligations to support staff including wages, insurance and travel reimbursement.
Provides continuing education for Speech/Language Therapists and Speech/Language Assistants.
Performs other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
