Job Description:

SUMMARY:This positionidentifies, evaluates and provides therapeutic intervention for children who exhibit all aspects of speech and language impairments for the School District.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Reviews and processes incoming special education records of speech-language impaired children

·         Recommends appropriate placement and services based on student records and review

·         Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings to determine speech-language evaluation needs for students

·         Administers standardized speech-language tests to assess and diagnose speech-language delays and

·         Disorders

·         Completes re-evaluations as necessary to comply with the development of on-going Individual Education Plan (IEP)

·         Conducts multi-disciplinary team meetings to determine eligibility and appropriate educational placement and services for speech-language impaired students

·         Develops IEPs as necessary in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations and guidelines

·         Plans and administers appropriate individualized programs of speech-language therapy to meet individual student's needs to correct existing speech-language delays and impairments

·         Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy suggestions for the student's daily activities

·         Monitors student progress and communicates with parents and teachers regarding students' progress

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

·         Knowledge of District rules, regulations, policies and procedures

·         Knowledge  of evaluation, interpretation  and diagnosis  of principles,  practices  and procedures  for speech and language impairment

·         Knowledge of child articulation impediments, voice pathologies, fluency problems, and language delay or disorder

·         Knowledge of special education policies and procedures

·         Knowledge of customer service methods and techniques

·         Ability to speak and read English proficiently

·         Skill in identifying and evaluating children with special needs

·         Skill in developing and implementing individualized goals and objectives for children with special needs

·         Skill in written and oral communications

·         Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

·         Masters’ Degree in Speech Language Pathology or equivalent

·         One (1) year supervised internship in a school environment

·         Must possess current Certification in speech language impairment

·         Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance

·         Maintain requirement for access to Fort Huachuca

Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and job specific computer programs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk. The employee may be required to move ten pounds and could occasionally lift or move up to twenty-five pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with employees, external agencies and the public. May be exposed to infectious diseases, air, water and bodily fluid borne pathogens.
