JOB TITLE:                                  High School Asst. Principal/Athletic Director

 

REPORTS TO:                             Principal

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

To assist the Principal in fulfilling the responsibility of promoting the educational well being of each student in the school.  

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Models the 12 Guiding Principles of Exceptional Character

  2. Assist in supervising the reporting and monitoring of student activities and the school activities’ calendar 

  3. As time permits, be involved in classroom observations, formal teacher evaluations, etc.

  4. Assists the Principal per Governing Board policy and as assigned by the Principal.

  5. Coordinates ideas, suggestions, etc. with the Principal to facilitate the growth of SHS and SHS Extra curricular activities.

  6. Administer policies of discipline as outlined in the student and staff handbook.

  7. Complete all necessary reports in a timely manner.

  8. Creates and maintains a school calendar. Inputs information on the school website calendar.

  9. Approves activity requests for all extracurricular activities. 

  10. Approves and Schedules Facility Use Agreements with community and outside organizations.

  11. Create and enforce a SHS Athletic Handbook and SHS Student Handbook  that includes all SHS and AIA athletic policies and procedures and sport’s specific policies and procedures.

  12. Screens, interviews, conducts background checks and recommends personnel to be hired for the athletic program. 

  13. Assist coaches in interviewing and making recommendations for employment of all personnel and all volunteers involved in athletics.

  14. Implement and enforce all athletic policies and procedures.

  15. Coordinate and implement a coaches’ meetings/trainings to communicate NFHS, AIA, and SUSD athletic handbook and coaching expectations.

  16. Meets with coaches, as needed, to prepare for upcoming seasons and to complete post-season evaluations. 

  17. Evaluates athletic program staff to identify strengths and weaknesses, outline improvement plans and makes recommendations for rehire and termination.

  18. Communicates with parents and stakeholders as needed in athletics and in administering discipline.

  19. Practices firm, fair, and consistent discipline procedures.

  20. Coordinate and supervise all home athletic events.

  21. Hires, trains and supervises workers for game managements

  22. Hires and supervises the Athletic Trainer and conducts formal evaluations

  23. Supervises security officer, maintenance and secretary as needed

  24. Coordinates and supervises all home game referees and/or umpires.

  25. Assist coaches in matters related to discipline and supervise students with regard to the same.

  26. Coordinate and supervise maintenance services including field set-up and work order procedures.

  27. Work with Transportation Department to coordinate travel for athletic program. 

  28. Creates, adjusts, and maintains schedules for athletic competitions with other AIA schools;

  29. Communicate and update the master schedule of all activities, including athletic field trips.

  30. Communicate with the attendance clerk all athletic field trips.

  31. Coordinate and implement all repairs and replacement of athletic equipment to ensure optimal safety.

  32. Ensures compliance with all AIA Bylaws and Policies and Procedures

  33. Ensures compliance with physical and medical protocols and academic eligibility requirements 

  34. Conduct student eligibility status each week and communicate with coaches student eligibility status.

  35. Coordinate and schedule the use of all high school facilities for athletic and non-athletic events, including the auxiliary gym, main gym, weight room, wrestling room, tennis courts and athletic fields.

  36. Assist coaches with the coordination of any home athletic tournaments.

  37. Prepares and administers the athletic budget (i.e. Supervise and coordinate the budgetary process for all athletics -- ensures compliance with proper accounting principles in ticket sales and case control)

  38. Prepare and submit a capital request for the athletic department.

  39. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure proper use and minimize loss. 

  40. Coordinate inventory of all athletic uniforms and equipment.

  41. Coordinate with coaches all equipment needs. 

  42. Communicate with coaches prior to each season to make sure all equipment needed for the season is ordered.

  43. Orders equipment and supplies in compliance with procurement procedures.

  44. Obtain quotes and submit orders for the entire athletic department.

  45. Oversee and manage athletic website -- hold coaches responsible for each team's website.

  46. Attend Athletic Directors’ meetings/ for the AIA. Serves on committees within the AIA.

  47. Attend all student athlete appeal meetings at the AIA office.

  48. Conduct evaluations of all coaches.

  49. Maintains records for all SHS contests, award winners an athletic scholarship.

  50. Plans and supervises appropriate recognition for all athletes.

  51. Perform other duties and responsibilities as the Principal may assign.
