Job Description:

Part-Time / Full-Time* Bus Driver for Athletics and Activities

Compensation includes:

  • Hourly pay starting at $21.00, depending on experience 
  • $1,000 signing bonus (paid after 90 days)
  • Reimbursement for job-related training and licensing

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for transporting Horizon Honors Schools’ students to and from student activities and sporting events (coaches and chaperones will be on bus for student management)

  • Vehicles to include: 46 passenger activity bus, mini busses, vans, pickup truck

  • Inspects and maintains the cleanliness of vehicles.

  • Checks water, gas, oil and mechanical condition before leaving on student activity or athletic trip

  • Reports delays and accidents

  • Keeps operational records and makes simple reports

  • Reports defects or problems with vehicle to executive director

  • Assures bus meets regular maintenance schedules. 

  • Regulates heating equipment and ventilation of bus for comfort of passengers

  • Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations.

  • Assumes responsibility for the safety of school children in loading, unloading and transporting them to and from student activity and athletic events

  • Instructs children in safety precautions and practices

  • Model the school values and philosophy in the position of bus driver

*Full-time option would include additional vehicle management, field prep, and/or maintenance work.

Qualifications:

  1. Must hold a valid Arizona driver’s license

  2. Must have a CDL-P (CDL-S preferred) (Will be reimbursed for training and license)

  3. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents.

  4. Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner.

  5. Ability to understand and carry out instructions.

  6. Ability to relate to students, parents, and school system personnel.

  7. Ability to complete various forms and records, including updated route sheets, time sheets, field trip forms, and incident and accident reports.

  8. Completion of first aid and driving courses.

  9. Training on highway safety rules and regulations.

  10. Must pass an annual physical examination.

While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to talk, hear, and touch. The employee is often required to stoop, sit at a computer desk, reach with arms and hands, and use their hands and fingers to stroke keyboards.  Occasionally, lifting and pushing for medium work are required.  Vision abilities required.
